PC-31 — St. Jude Prayer Card
Patron of Impossible Causes — for the prayers that feel too desperate to pray
There is a beautiful irony at the heart of St. Jude's story. Because his name was so similar to Judas Iscariot — the betrayer of Christ — Christians for centuries were reluctant to invoke him, fearing the association. As a result, St. Jude sat largely unasked, his powerful intercession waiting in heaven for souls brave enough to call upon him. And so a tradition was born: the person who finally did invoke St. Jude was usually someone with nowhere else to turn — and St. Jude, faithful and ready, answered. Today he is paradoxically the most invoked apostle in the Catholic Church, and one of the most beloved saints in the world.
One of the original Twelve Apostles, St. Jude Thaddaeus was a cousin of Jesus Christ, a brother of St. James the Less, and a tireless missionary who preached the Gospel across Mesopotamia, Libya, Persia, and beyond — eventually dying a martyr's death for his faith. He is traditionally depicted carrying a cloth imprinted with the Holy Face of Christ, which he carried to King Abgar of Edessa and used to miraculously heal him. Both St. Bridget of Sweden and St. Bernard received visions from God asking them to spread devotion to St. Jude as the Patron Saint of the Impossible — and the Church has honored that title ever since.
His feast day is October 28th. His answer rate, according to generations of grateful faithful who have taken out newspaper thank-you notices and pinned handwritten notes to his shrine, is extraordinary. If you have a cause that feels impossible — bring it to St. Jude. He has been waiting for exactly that prayer.
Perfect for: Anyone in desperate need, hospital patients, those facing impossible situations, October 28th feast day, parish evangelization, bulk devotional outreach, and anyone who needs a powerful intercessor on their side.
