PC-25 — St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) Prayer Card

Philosopher. Carmelite. Martyr. A saint for every soul that seeks the truth.

Born into a prominent Jewish family, Edith Stein abandoned her faith as a teenager and became an atheist — yet her brilliant mind never stopped searching for truth. It was the autobiography of St. Teresa of Ávila that finally broke through, leading her to baptism in 1922 and eventually to the Carmelite convent, where she took the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.

As the Nazi terror spread across Europe, she entered a Carmelite convent in 1934, taking the name "Teresa Benedicta of the Cross" as a symbol of her acceptance of suffering, writing: "I felt that those who understood the Cross of Christ should take upon themselves on everybody's behalf." When the Gestapo came for her, she took her sister Rosa by the hand and said simply, "Come, we are going for our people." She was murdered in the gas chamber at Auschwitz-Birkenau on August 9, 1942.

Pope John Paul II canonized her in 1998 and proclaimed her a co-patroness of Europe the following year — a Jewish woman, a Catholic philosopher, a Carmelite nun, and a martyr whose life bridges two of history's greatest traditions and bears witness to the power of truth pursued without compromise.

This St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Prayer Card is a profound devotional gift for philosophers, converts, Jewish-Catholic dialogue communities, and anyone who has walked a long and unexpected road to faith.

Perfect for: Converts to the faith, philosophy students, Jewish-Catholic communities, women's retreats, Carmelite devotees, August 9th feast day, and anyone inspired by the courage of modern martyrs.
